«THE LODGE» at Big Spruce Cabins is located at the south end of the property, on the banks of Chicago Creek.  In 1938, C.F. Cole and his wife, Blanch, built the two bedroom home of native stone and raised two boys there. When the fourth and present owners, the Small Family purchased the property, they began to finish areas that had not been finished previously. This has resulted in a five unit building that we call The Lodge.  You must love the sound of running water, as you hear and see it from all units!

The main floor has the KEYSTONE, the original two bedroom home built by the Coles.  It is finished in warm and glowing knotty pine, hardwood floors throughout and a large stone fireplace in the living room.  A full kitchen and bath and lovely front porch are part of the KEYSTONE.  The KEYSTONE is approximately 900 square feet.

Also on the main floor is the FLAGSTONE.  Entrance is through a secured common entry.  It offers one bedroom, a full bath, and ample kitchen with eating space in a stone corner. The living room is large with a wood burning fireplace and sliding glass doors that open onto a flagstone patio.  Windows grace the entire east and south walls and the south end of the living room as the roof line is vaulted, allowing for extraordinary light and solar heat to flood this beautiful unit.  The FLAGSTONE is approximately 800 square feet.

The other main floor unit is the COBBLESTONE, entered from the south side of the Lodge.  It is a studio like no other! Windows line all the living room walls.  Sliding glass doors open onto a flagstone patio.

Chicago

creek is just steps away, including a view of our covered bridge in the distance.  The entire north wall of the COBBLESTONE is native stone, as this was originally a back porch area.  The kitchen is located at the east end and is appointed with pine cupboards and a dowelled plate hanger.  The bathroom includes a small closet and a very unique shower with native granite stone and coordinating tile walls.  The COBBLESTONE is approximately 400 square feet.

Upstairs and on the north (front) side of the building is the SANDSTONE unit.  It is entered through a secured, common entry.  A small storage area is directly inside the door.  Going upstairs, on the right are two bedrooms with a full bath between them.  The living room is spacious, with a wood burning stove and a vaulted ceiling offering windows to frame the rocky mountain peaks.  An oversized pantry/closet provides extra storage.  A breakfast bar separates the full kitchen and living room.  The SANDSTONE is approximately 900 square feet.

On the south side of the Lodge, climb the steps that lead to a 9 by 13 deck that overlooks Chicago Creek.  Enter the French doors to the CORNERSTONE unit.  The living room is mostly glass on the south, viewing the deck, the creek and the covered bridge.  A light wood floor and beamed ceiling complement the living room.  The small, but full kitchen is right off the living room, decorated with green marble counter tops.  A step up will take you into the bedroom, lighted with windows on the east and south sides, and a skylight through which you can view the big dipper at night!  Just off the bedroom is the bathroom with a sunken tub and parket flooring. The CORNERSTONE is approximately 750 square feet.

All units include satellite TV, water, electricity and propane.  On the main floor of the Lodge, one coin op washer and dryer is available for all Lodge residents. Assigned parking is offered. There is a trash dumpster nearby.  No mail delivery is available so tenants must arrange for a post office box in Idaho Springs (about 5 minutes away).
